Meet the Artist: Meg of Meg’s Pet Portraits

Hi, I’m Meg — the artist behind Meg’s Pet Portraits and proud dog mom to Ollie (a fluffy pomeranian) and Chrissy (a sassy chihuahua). Together, the three of us call central Pennsylvania home.

My journey into pet portraiture began unexpectedly in March 2020, after being laid off from my retail management job during the pandemic. Looking for a creative outlet, I started painting my own dogs — and when I shared my work online, it quickly resonated with fellow pet lovers. What began as a hobby for my own sanity quickly  grew into a full-time passion as more people asked me to bring their beloved animals to life on canvas (and eventually many more surfaces).

With a lifelong love for both animals and art, this path feels like the one I was always meant to follow. Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian (until I learned it wasn’t just about petting dogs all day). Throughout school, I pursued every art class available (no joke — one semester, my schedule was only art classes), eventually studying psychology at Millersville University while minoring in studio art.

Since launching Meg’s Pet Portraits, I’ve had the privilege of creating hundreds of custom pieces and donating over $1,000 to local animal rescues — especially PA Caring for K9s, a foster-based organization that rescues dogs from high-kill shelters in the South. My own Chrissy is one of their many success stories and their mission is very close to my heart.

Each portrait I create is a tribute to the deep bond we share with our pets. I’m so grateful for every client who’s trusted me with their furry (feathered, scaled, etc) family members — and I look forward to painting yours, too!
